Harry Pooley is my Grandfather, I understand he was an FOO in Burma. Great to see his parachute wings on his chest. Do you have any other photos of him and where did you find this photo? Cheers Nick

      Nick,

thank you for getting in touch. Yes, there are several more photographs of your grandfather which I am happy to copy and send to you. All the photographs in the thread came from a house clearance in Leicester and were all from Billetop's estate.
Many of the photographs are annotated and your grandfather's was on the back of those that he is in.

I would be pleased to know more about your grandfather and which unit he served with, where he came from, etc, so that I can have a fuller understanding of his time in India and Burma.

      Best wishes,

      Simon

Hi Simon, thanks for getting back to me. All I know is that he was RA serving most of his time out in the Far East, was parachute trained in India I believe. I do remember him telling me that during his parachute training course the instructors conducted a parachute drop demonstration for the course students, unfortunately all their parachutes failed to open, they had no reserve in those days and sadly all died. it was believed that the parachute rigs had been sabotaged! His eldest daughter, my mother lives in Preston, his son is in Hong Kong and youngest daughter lives in South Africa. I sent the link of the above photo to my Mum and it would be great if you can kindly email over any more that you have and I'll forward to my Uncle and Aunt. my email address is nickdugg@gmail.com ... thanks very much for your help :) Cheers Nick

thank you for the updates. I will send some photographs as email attachments. I cannot see the photograph of Harry and you in parachute training so could you please send it as an email attachment when you have my email address?

      Many thanks,

      Simon
