      Hi Bernard,
A couple of witness accounts from BBC People's war; after the Normandy invasion they were used against targets on the Continent.

My Dad's unit was crossing the Channel when one was spotted overhead. It landed on Guards Chapel in London killing over 100 people and wounding many more during a Service including many Guardsmen, 18 June 1944. Strangely enough the story goes the candles on the altar were still burning when rescuers arrived to help the wounded buried in the rubble. http://www.britishpathe.com/video/new-chapel-for-guards

      Hi Bernard,
No neither of those stories are my Dad's.
All I know about Dad's own first channel crossing was him listening to the ship's captain argue with Provost about transporting some deserters back over to Normandy. These men had seen enough of the invasion apparently. The captain refused to set sail with anyone on board in handcuffs. A good man, as Dad said, we know nothing about him other than the captain was Canadian.
I have a good many of Dad's stories, but they're not the kind people on here would want to read. ;)
      Regards
      Diane
