John Oliver-Bellasis was born on 15 September 1900. He was the son of Captain Richard John Erskine Oliver-Bellasis and Gwendoline Mary Woollcombe-Adams. He married Anne Mary Bates, daughter of Sydney Arthur Bates and Mary da Costa Crosse, on 29 July 1939. He died in 1979.He was educated at Marlborough College, Marlborough, Wiltshire, England. He was educated at Royal Military College, Sandhurst, Berkshire, England. He fought in the Second World War, where he was mentioned in despatches and was wounded twice. He was decorated with the award of the Companion, Distinguished Service Order (D.S.O.) in 1944. He gained the rank of Lieutenant-Colonel in the service of the Royal Fusiliers. He held the office of Justice of the Peace (J.P.) for Hampshire in 1950. He held the office of Deputy Lieutenant (D.L.) of Hampshire in 1955. He lived in 1976 at Wootton House, Wootton St. Lawrence, Basingstoke, Hampshire, England.

      good day dbf.yesterday.11:42pm.re:the fusilier museum,london.a very informative post.but the helmet with the bullet hole is a story in itself,did the soldier live or die.you would like to think the hat saved his life.the battle of mt.casino took its toll on both sides.there was not much left of the monestary after the battle.regards,bernard85
