Jeanne Robert..... an example of those French civilians who supported the resistance, Maquis and SOE activities from the times when the future was bleak but had the moral courage to continue the fight....thanks for posting an account of her involvement and remembrance.

Visited Castelnau sur l' Auviganon while on holiday in the Gers at Mirande a few years ago being aware of the clandestine activities here of George Starr. To hide his SOE involvement,George Starr had the role of mayor of the village....his was never denounced to the Germans.

There is a plaque at the entrance of the village which commemorates the offensive against the village of 21 June 1944 when it was burnt down in retaliation for an engagement where the German forces sustained much more casualties than the Maquis.

A little late, the Daily Telegraph today carries the obituary of Jeanne Robert.
