I've been going through some Free Polish soldiers paybooks and was hoping someone could help explain how the numbers are made up - they are all basically made up of several sections - they seem to start with a number I cant work out (this may be a sequential number), then in some cases a letter which seems to be first initial of the surname, then another number (looks like when there is a letter before this is the year of birth, but when no letter I cant work it out 157/K/1903/III 40171/311/I 26646/34/I Just hoping to get a better understanding of these.
