Folks, I am aware of a Flight Sergeant James F. Johnston who was shot down on the night of 22 / 23 October 1943 during a Raid on Kassel. His RAF Number was 1483501 and he survived the attack becoming a Prisoner of War. I am trying to identify the particular aircraft he was in to see if I can learn more about how it was downed and what happened to the rest of the crew. He MAY have been in 103 Squadron however this is not certain. Any help would be very much appreciated. Andy
For Info - not found Sqdn yet UK, British Prisoners of War, 1939-1945 Name: J F Johnston Rank: Flight Sergeant Army Number: 1483501 Regiment: Royal Air Force : Officers & Other Ranks POW Number: 261213 Camp Type: Stalag Camp Number: 4B Camp Location: Muhlberg (Elbe), Germany Section: Royal Air Force : Officers & Other Ranks TD
Possibly shot down by Unteroffizier Heinz Misch of 9./NJG-2 who claimed a Halifax at 4,000m 20km SW Holzminden at 2115. However this claim could also relate to Halifax JD121 of 77 Squadron.
Folks this is absolutely fabulous. I have been contacted by a relative of his and will be able to show a POW Photograph of him here soon. Thanks very much!! Andy
Hi Andy, I have just forwarded this to my half sister Dana in Canada, R.225377 F/Sgt McCart was her mothers brother, and my sister has all her uncle's medals, I know she will be very interested in reading all this. Regards Glenn.
Hi. My Uncle, Robin McCart was one of the air gunners that was killed and not identified. Is there a website where I can find more information, ie., the exhumation reports or the crash site, etc? Thank you so much, Dana
I'm sorry but what I posted in April was all I could find. This was in A/G Christenson's service file. As it seems three a/c came down the same night the other documents pertain only to JD121. Regards, Dave
Thank you Dave. The document that you posted has much more information than I was aware of before and I certainly appreciate it. Regards, Dana
