WORKSHOPS Workshops existed at all levels from brigade upwards. They were intended to carry out repairs beyond the skills, equipment or capacity of units and LAD’s. As more specialised equipment was introduced, particularly electronics, more specialised workshops were required. WORKSHOPS Infantry Brigade Workshop. War Establishment II/339/3. Detachments will be allocated to army and corps salvage dumps as necessary. Labour will be provided by prisoners of war or Pioneer Corps on the basis of two sections per Reclamation Detachment. Reclamation Detachments were formed to inspect vehicles at back loading parks. They had lists of parts which were in short supply in the theatre. They identified these parts and removed them from vehicles that were not worth repairing. Parts were then issued to RASC and REME workshops. Early in the campaign 70% of base workshop needs were met by reclamation. Remains of vehicles were sent to a Help Yourself Park where any unit might take parts such as springs or mudguards.
