    Circumstances: Not Known. Turret at 6 o'clock when seen.

    Position of Hit: Scoops from a single shot on front edge of glacis plate and on visor plate just to the right of the Driver's vision port. The whole visor plate was pushed backwards and the weld between it and the glacis plate cracked. Visor hinge was missing and had probably been hit by the projectile.

    Course & Effect of Projectile: No internal damage

    Remarks: It was not possible to trace ownership of this tank.

    Position of Hit: a) penetration 20 mm. in diameter at junction of lower front glacis plate and sole plate, roughly in centre of tank; b ) scoop out of the top of the mantlet over the M.G. Deep splash marks on the gun mounting.

    Course & Effect of Projectiles: There was no apparent internal damage. Turret fan cover missing.

    Remarks: Tank seen. It was not possible to trace the ownership of this tank. Although the turret was at 6 o'clock when the tank was seen in a damaged vehicle partook, it could be traversed and might have been moved after the tank was hit.

    Fate of Crew: Not Known.

    Remarks: Tank seen, but it was not possible to trace the ownership.

    Course & Effect of Projectiles: No fire except Operator's clothes.

    Remarks: Tank seen, but detailed internal examination could not be made as it was sealed. Information from Squadron Leader.

    Fate of Crew:
    Commander, Gunner & Driver: Got out apparently unhurt and were killed outside by sniping.
    Co-Driver: Got out unhurt, and was wounded outside by sniping.
    Operator: Killed in tank. Severe head wounds.

    Circumstances: Early morning North bank of the ALLER. Tank coming slowly up to a crest when fired at by a gun stated to be a "smooth bore 75 mm." firing a hollow charge projectile. This was probably an 8 cm. Pw. K. 8 H63. Fired at from the front.

    Position of Hit: Tank hit half a dozen or more times and eventually penetrated at bottom right side of front of turret.

    Course & Effect of Projectiles: Slight fire in turret.

    Remarks: Tank not seen. Information from Squadron Leader. Several shots were also fired at this tank by the same gun which missed. Crew got out before penetration.

    Fate of Crew: Unhurt.

    Circumstances: Leading tank. Static in a wood, saw a German gun 100 yards away. They fired simultaneously, and both missed. Was then hit by another gun firing from the right flank.

    Position of Hit: a) penetration 85 mm. diameter through centre of right hand side wall of the turret; b ) 98 mm. diameter through turret wall below and behind a), just above the turret ring.

    Course & Effect of Projectiles: Shot a) hit and damaged the main gun behind the rear end of the Besa. Shot b ) went through the turret ring and floor of the rear turret bulge and bounced up and hit the roof behind the A.R.V.C. Fire confined to the turret.

    Remarks: Tank seen.

    Fate of Crew:
    Driver & Co-Driver: Unhurt.
    Commander: Killed
    Gunner: Died of Wounds. Hit in face and chest.
    Operator: Died of Wounds. Hit in abdomen.

    Cause of Damage: A.P. (75 mm.) penetrations.

    Fire Damage: Confined

    Other tanks involved in same incident:

    Circumstances: Static, firing at German half-track vehicles, was stalked by a German S.P. which fired from about 100 yards in front of the tank. Turret at 8 o'clock.

    Position of Hit: a) penetration through top right hand corner of the Driver's compartment; b ) penetration 75 mm. diameter through the lower front glacis plate, just internal to left hand towing hook; c) and d) penetrations about 75 mm. in diameter through the back of the turret.

    Course & Effect of Projectiles: Shot a) removed hinge of Driver's hatch, went back through the side stowage bin and caused the crew to bale out. The exact paths of shots b ), c) and d) were not traced. Fire in turret and front compartments. Not Known whether engine involved or not.

    Remarks: Tank seen but it was not possible to examine it fully owing to failing light.

    Fate of Crew: Unhurt.
    Driver: Superficial wound left wrist. RTD in 5/52. Category A.1.

    Cause of Damage: H.C. penetration

    Fire Damage: Minor, confined.

    Other tanks involved in same incident:

    Circumstances: Stationary, but closed down at time. Fired at from in front, hit at normal. Turret at 12 o'clock.

    Position of Hit: Penetration about 25 mm. diameter through edge of vision port, at 5 o'clock to the opening.

    Course & Effect of Projectiles: Little internal damage to front compartment. Said to have been scorching but no real fire. Driver was leaning to one side with his left hand on the left hand periscope. His left arm was on the direct path of the projectile.

    Remarks: Tank seen, but detailed internal examination was not made owing to the tank being sealed.

    Fate of Crew:
    Commander, Gunner & Operator: Unhurt.
    Driver: Wounded. Amputation left arm through middle of humerus. Wound left axial with injury to the artery. Pen. wound right chest, said to have had large F.B. removed from chest, but X-ray not seen. Discharged home 8½/52. Category E.
    Co-Driver: Superficial peppering right side of jaw and neck. RTD 2/52. Category A.1.

    Cause of Damage: A.P. (88 mm.) scoop and penetration after ricochet.

    Fire Damage: Confined fire.

    Other tanks involved in same incident:

    Circumstances: Moving slowly down a road, second tank in column when fired at from left flank by ground mounted gun.

    Position of Hit: Projectile scoop the lower rear left hand corner of the turret and then went on and penetrated the roof of the engine compartment.

    Course & Effect of Projectiles: The engine was damaged by the projectile and by the subsequent fire. No obvious path in the engine compartment was found for the projectile. No other internal damage.

    Remarks: Tank seen.

    Fate of Crew: Unhurt
