Thank you for posting these Paul. Out of everything I have read so far, these have moved me the most. I had to stop reading for a while as I was getting very misty eyed.

Thanks for updating Peter Mason, and he was cmdr of C squadron, not B as I said earlier.

Also, I think Charles Richard Spencer may be 44th recce from the citation? (He is down as 46th).

You have done a superlative job with these Paul. Really.

    Regards,
    Diane

Diane, Charles Richard Spencer is a typo which is now fixed.

    Cheers

Lovely to see my dads MM info (sgt Donald Smith), France star, Africa star, Italy star, ended up captain. I have London Gazette cutout, his cap badge, also a hand carved cig box in form of a tank he was presented with at Catterick.

Hello and welcome. Lovely to have another Recce here :)
Do you think you could start a new thread in the Recce forum with any photos of your dad and photos of the other things you have.
It is always nice to put a face to a name and we like photos

This is my father and just recently I have been putting together a history of his life including of course his war service. Like many he spoke very little about it so I have been interested to find these forums.

Thanks for posting this.....we've now had my Dad's MC and this citation framed for his Grandson (who is 23!)
He turned 96 in October last year and is still going strong - living in Johannesburg.
I'll be seeing him in 3 weeks time and will show him this site.
    Regards
    Richard Howell

I have been lucky enough to make the acquaintance of Jim Howell, now 96 years old and a retired doctor living in Johannesburg. He and I had a wonderful afternoon yesterday discussing military history and I hope this will be come a regular thing.
