Hi, Recently received my mothers' RAF records from WW2 and there are two posting entries I cannot fathom.
Postings were #6 S of TT, to 51 OTU, to 60OTU, to 4232 SE, to 4242 SE, to 105 PDE.

Its the 4232 & 4242 I cannot find, I assumed SE was South East but that's a guess her trade was Flight mechanic Engines for Mosquitos

    thanks,

Welcome aboard. There is plenty of knowledge and expertise here.

It is vital you add her full name, Date of Birth, Service Number and if known their unit. Members can check their resources and do some online research. Others may be looking now and in the future for them; we regularly have people join who have found a post or thread about a relative.

It might be worth checking if there is a local newspaper article about him. Most public libraries have access to the British Newspaper Archive when in the library, not online.

It helps to add a ‘tag’ when you create a thread, only you can do this. It is for the formation / corps involved or a theme like intelligence. Searching tags can identify threads, otherwise it takes a bit longer.

Some research tips, now a four pg. PDF available on: WW2 Soldier Research - Tips and Links for New Researchers (update) It includes an excellent WW2 abbreviations site. Plus: How to Start a new Thread / Edit Post / Upload Image

Thanks for the info, Her details are Phyllis Joan Pay 26 March 1924 No. 2009130 rank ACW1 trade FME (flight mechanic engines) having googled the Service Echelons would it be correct that those references were for 232 & 242 squadrons?
Not sure what you mean by a 'tag'

Re: Servicing Echelons. Yes, and you will see that in 1942 both squadrons merged and groundcrews were sent to Ceylon with No. 232 Squadron closing up shop.

A 'tag' is a subject heading, they can only be created by the opening post author. If created they aid searching by others. So, for your thread the two RAF squadrons. You can edit your opening post, the ikon is bottom left.

Thank you for the information, although all this happened before my mother joined them, as the unit was prefixed with 4(232) it was a Transport Command unit at Stoney Cross as was 242 her next posting (airfield shuffle)
