Recently joined a bowling club and noticed that blazers were being worn for away matches. Decided that my own blazer looked a tad bare because of it's lack of a badge and bought myself a 4th QOH Rgtl badge on the internet. When it duly arrived I spotted that the Regimental Motto , which should have read "Mente et Manu" (Mind & Hand) , was embroidered as "Ente et Manu" The badge, apart from the error, was simply magnificent and I debated with mself as to whether or not any one else would ever spot the error. Fortunately for me, I decided the honour of the Regiment was at stake and I phoned the supplier. The short story is that the item was simply replaced within 24 hours, with much apology for the inconvenience and I now have no fear of anyone asking me what the motto means Ron
Ron, How do you decide between RA & 4 QOH ? Did you go for the latter as they're a posh cavalry regiment?
Owen Yep ! Having Churchill as the Hon Colonel was the decider Ron ps If you were me and you were asked, as I have often been, "What unit did you serve in ?" which one would you chose, the 49th Light Ack Ack or the 4th Queen's Own Hussars ? Yes, I know I served in both units but the more memorable for me was the 4th QOH
The numeral now reads I.V. (One and Five) instead of IV (Fourth), but that's a minor quibble and not many non Romans know that. Once again, Well done that Man! Or should I say 'quod bene hominem' Vale! Peter
Went back to the Gallery and found this clip from a BBC interview which shows the motto on the cap badge.
