Hi - just joined the Forum and was wondering if anyone could help me with a set of medals I've recently acquired as I'm a little green when it comes to WW2 militaria.
Luckily the medals came with their original box and slip detailing the enclosed medals and I noticed the number 605 appears on the outside of the box (with what appears to be N3 before it) and on the actual slip (minus the N3).
I realise WW2 Medal research is not blessed with the breaks available for WW1 decorations, but was just wondering if these numbers were significant at all? In addition to the 1939-45 Star other decorations included in the group include the France & Germany Star, Defence Medal and War Medal plus Oak Leaf.
As I said, I'm very new to this area, so would be grateful for any insights, guidance or suggestions both specific and general.
    Many thanks!

    Hi and welcome.
Which country are you talking about? Some have names on the back or rim and some not.
The oak leaf is for a Mention in Despatches, may be recorded in the London gazette, depending who it is.
Number is probably tying the boxes to the medal slip.
You may be able to research more depending on what you tell us.

    regards

    Robert
