I am trying to find information on my mother in laws father who served in the RASC in WW2. We know he was in the RASC but do not have his service number. Any help with trying to find this would be a big help.. His name is Leslie James Blackey and in this image in 43 he is a Lcpl.
You should still be able to apply for his service records with just a name and date of birth. If the family hasn't got his service number, you're unlikely to find it in the public domain.
Im sure you have to supply a death certificate if your applying for service records. This was the case when I applied for my Granddads.
Hello Anthony Yes you can apply for his service records with just a FULL date of birth, and you will need a copy of his death certificate. They found my father's records with just his DOB Lesley
If your mother in law was born during the war, might be worth checking her birth certificate as servicemen often included their service number with the birth registration. Lee
That's a good shout, lee. And thank you Lesley. I have MY grandfathers records, I would love to follow his route through France in 1940 and NW Europe in 44/45.
