-39253_7116.jpg 1, 3 and 4 look like Gulmarg in Kashmir whilst No 2 looks like it may be Calcutta as it has a hand drawn rickshaw.

    Hi Keith,

I was up at the Archives today for the first time in ages. I was on the look out for a Chindit officer on behalf of the Chindit Society and looked in both 60 Reg RA (1944) and 2 Queens (1945) diaries. Hartland appears in both, moving from 60 RA to 2QRWS in December 1944. Are you interested in the diaries? I have not read them only photographed.

    Hi Steve,
    Yes please.
They might give a bit more info of where he went and that would fit in with the photos ?, shame we do not have a photo of him that has his name on.
I wish the guy with the Queens photo would put up a high res of the unit photo so we could ID him from it or just part of it .
    Regards,
    Keith

    Hi Keith,

Give me a day or so and I'll sort that out for you. Hartland moved over to the 2 QRWS along with 10-12 other men from 60 Reg. RA after their commanding officer, Lt-Col. HG. de J du Vallon was made C/o of the 2 QRWS. The officer I am researching on behalf of a Chindit family could well be depicted in one of your photographs.

    Best wishes

    Steve

I'm delighted to have come across this thread, albeit rather late.
Rather spookily, I have the rest of Lt J Hartland's collection, including photos, occupation currency, silk escape map and slouch hat. At least I think its him: mine is 60th Fd Regt RA, the slouch hat is named 'Lt Hartland' and comparing the attached photo with yours would suggest they are one and the same.

    Hi Keith,
On further inspection, it seems I might have the original prints from your negatives.
It would be interesting to compare notes!
    All the best,
    Jerry

    Hi Keith,
Thanks for coming back so quickly.

The photo of the Capt and 2Lt says 'Self and Capt Shand Feb '42'. From that I assume that the 2Lt is Hartland, which would make the guy with the two Webleys Hartland and the one of the two men in marching order, Hartland (I believe) is the on e on the left with the revolver holster.
I have a lots of photos, including as far as I can tell, all the pictures from your negatives. There's also a bunch of pictures from Egypt and India, including some with family and friends in them. Most of them have notes on the back and so I can try to give you some names of the folk in them if you want to highlight the ones you're interested in.

Fantastic to have come across the other half of this treasure trove!!

Equally, I can try to make the prints available on this site if anyone is interested. I've only just joined MVT and if the article mentioned earlier is still being drafted, I'd be very happy to help/collaborate.
