I have just been reading through the 98-page War Crimes file WO 235/147, which deals with the trial of Col. Teodorico Citerni, commandant of PG 82 Laterina from August 1942 until September 1943.

After having been taken prisoner by the Allies early in 1946 he was interned in Transit Camp No. 3. to await his trial, which took place between 1-3 August of that same year.

I cannot find any reference to this transit camp anywhere, though I have discovered that when used for the same purpose in the same period PG 82 Laterina had been re-numbered P.M. 219.

I'd be most grateful for any suggestions as to where I might look,

    Thanks,

    Thanks Trevor.

These were all work camps and I already know about them.

Col. Citerni was arrested by the Allies for War Crimes early in 1946 and was held in camp No.3 along with others who had been arrested by us for having committed various offences against our troops or simply because they belonged to the Armed Forces of the Republic of Salò. One of the places they were sent to was ex. POW camp PG 35 at Padula near Naples and another was Coltano near Pisa-- but I don't know what their new numbers were. I'll keep looking,

War Diaries whilst in Italy. Not sure they'll have anything of interest in them though.

Thanks Drew. At least they'll say where the camp is, I imagine. The one I would be interested in is the Jan-June 1946 as that's when the person I'm interested in was being held there. I wonder how many pages it's likely to be?

Given that Transit Camp 3 was already open in Jan. 1944 it must have been south of Cassino, possibly at Padula near Naples where one Fascist I know of was held - we ( either 56 Recce or King's Dragoon Guards, probably the latter ) took him prisoner from Isola Maggiore in Lake Trasimeno where I live and he was held there until '46. He was in charge of an internment camp for Jews...but that's another story.

No idea on pages. I'd guess it to be quite boring and fairly thin but you never know. I'm no expert but bear in mind the camp could have moved to another location as the fighting progressed - I guess it would be determined by how portable or permanent the camp was.

I'll now do a bit more research Drew and then I'll decide whether or not I woud like the documentation.

    Thanks,
