Has the workings of "Recent Posts" changed in the last few days? On Saturday I marked all forums as read, today I see 10 pages of forums going back to October 2014 (these will mostly be topics I was not interested in so had not actually read plus those topic with postings since my last visit). Previously I would typically have seen one or two pages of unread posts only and possibly the bar showing "unread posts since your last visit" Of course it could be good old Microsoft Edge screwing things up again!7Any thoughts people? Noel
I've rebuilt the search index today while attempting to fix a feature of it, Noel. Good possibility that this might affect such things. (Could also be a cookie thing at your end, but I suspect the above is more likley.)
Just logged on from my PC at work (shh!). The situation is unchanged with the same 10 pages of unread posts. Attached screenshot shows a red line separating todays visit from yesterdays - not that yesterday starts with two threads which I have read followed by one (deliberately) unread thread. Only a minor niggle - still happy overall with the forum Noel
Hmm, have I swapped over the positions of 'new posts' and 'recent posts' buttons while fixing something the other day? Really wasn't sure at the time that I'd put them back in exactly the same order. They're both working as they ever did for me, but I think you may have previously been using the 'New Posts' button, which removes threads someone's already read from view.
Adam The answer is 'yes', you have swapped 'new' and 'recent'. They are also both working correctly as far as I can see and that, as you yourself state, could be the explanation. Steve
I shall put them back, as was, this evening. Apologies due from me for your confusion it seems, Noel!
The damning evidence of how it should be, from a screenshot Lee posted a while back. A screenshot that I knew I should have dug out when noodling the other day... Fixing now. Apologies again, Noel.
Done. And maybe worth another explanation of 'New posts' vs. 'Recent posts': New posts: Will give you a view with everything you have already read, or marked as read, removed from sight. Recent Posts: Gives a view where unread threads are in bold, but all other threads will still be on the list, only in a slightly greyer text. Personally, I find recent posts a more useful view when pottering and re-visiting threads to check stuff, but both styles seem to have their adherents, hence the option.
