Hello all, This is my first post on this website, which after looking through for an hour or two, I must say is a fantastic resource and a great place to remember and research the Second World War. I am trying to find out a bit more on a war casualty I have found, after google led me to a thread on this site. The casualty was Captain Raymond George Crawford Jones, son of Thomas John Crawford Jones and Ada Charlotte Reay of Essex. Details are as follows. Name: JONES, RAYMOND GEORGE CRAWFORD Rank: Captain Regiment/Service: Royal Artillery Age: 32 Date of Death: 22/11/1945 Service No: 247623 Additional information: Son of Thomas John Crawford Jones and Ada Charlotte Jones; husband of Vera Una Jones, of Upminster. Grave/Memorial Reference: Cremation, Panel 12. Cemetery: CITY OF LONDON CEMETERY AND CREMATORIUM, MANOR PARK. As Raymond was a Captain, I feel there may be more information on him somewhere that I cannot seem to find, ergo why I have come here. I would be grateful to anybody who is able to provide any information about Captain Jones' death (I note it was after VE Day and at home, so perhaps he was injured), or if there are any newspaper clippings anywhere which may help me understand a bit more about him. I am related to his mother Ada, who is the daughter of my gt gt gt uncle Robert Reay. Thank you in anticipation, and also for putting his details up so I could find them from google. Matthew Reay.

As the CWGC entry does not give his Regiment, you would need to apply for his service record as Clive has mentioned in his post above. Regards - Rob
How wierd is this. His name appears in the 19 July 1949 supplement to the London Gazette and is awarded the Efficiency Medal (Territorial), 3 and a half years after he died. Viewing Page 3538 of Issue 38668 The name is shown on the right hand side of the page and mentions he is deceased. He also got his commission as a 2nd Lieutenant on 8 October 1942. Thanks Clive, I will see about ordering his records, do I not have to be direct and know next of kin (neither apply to me). I know he served in the Royal Artillery from the newspaper clippings now, so that solves one wee mystery. Rob - thanks for providing them! They give me a little more, i.e that he was a 2nd Lt. in 1942, so he served at least three years in the army, so must have seen some sort of action in 1944/45. It's all very interesting. Thanks to both of you for helping me edge my way through with more clues. Matt.
hello Matt details from Service Records site Note that if you are not the immediate Next of Kin or do not have the consent of the Next of Kin* then for a period of 25 years following the date of death the only information that will be disclosed to you is surname; forename; rank; service number; regiment/corps; place of birth; age; date of birth; date of death where this occurred in service; the date an individual joined the service, the date of leaving; good conduct medals (i.e. Long Service and Good Conduct Medal (LS&GCM)), and any orders of chivalry and gallantry medals (decorations of valour) awarded, some of which may have been announced in the London Gazette. After this period the following information will also be disclosed, the units in which he/she served, the dates of this service and the locations of those units; the ranks in which the service was carried out and details of WWII campaign medals. regards Clive
I have information on Captain Jones. He died 22 November 1945 from colorectal cancer. Vera Una remarried circa 1949 to Constable George Alfred Nuth of the Essex Constabulary. Captain Jones was a dentist by profession. If you would like further information, please contact me at Michael.nuth@gmail.com
