'Tigris One' was quite a substantial pleasure boat. I haven't seen photos of such a craft beached but if French troops refloated here then she was gone before the gloating Germans turned up with their looted cameras. The British and French photographed little and most of what we have is very much post-evacuation (up to a year later in some cases).

Thanks Richard , but thats my own website linked to the photo  I run the website riverthames.co.nr , sadly i only have the 3 or 4 photos of TIGRIS ONE on the site.

As you say she was gone before the germans arrived so i doubt any photos were taken of her.

    Hi Ben,

Any chance you can add the pics to here? They appear to be blocked

ps A friend of my parents maybe interested in your website - He used to be a skipper on the tugs until the late 70's. I'll ask my Dad later what company he worked for.

I realised that you'd at least have seen that one Ben but thought it a good idea to link it to here in case anyone recognised it from Dunkirk photos.

Your best bet might be to view newsreel film of the evacuation as she just might come in shot somewhere - Maybe try the British Pathé site. I have the impression that most photos taken on the beaches while the evacuation was in progress are well known and much used.

Most books rely heavily on German sources. Ignoring actions south of the Somme, I can think of no official British reporting much after the withdrawal from the Dyle line. I think the photographers hopped it with GHQ.

I would be grateful if you could let me know where I can find the logbook of the Fossa.
My Father was in the R.N. during the war and was on board Fossa from the time she left Southend Pier, then HMS Leigh, until the time she was abandoned at Dunkirk and his account of events differs from those given in the logbook and various sites.
    Best wishes,
    Ossie.

    Hi,
Are you still looking for a photo of the Fossa? I think I might have one. Just found old negatives from my grandfather and one of them shows a ship called Fossa. It is clearly in the war times and I think somewhere in France?
    I've got lots of questions...

Has anyone got photographs or info on the following 3 River Thames vessels

Any photographs of them at Dunkirk would be superb

FOSSA - Beached at Dunkirk 1940, operated by Gaselee & Sons (Tug) - reported to have been salvaged by German troops?

PRINCESS FREDA - Thames Passenger Vessel , returned from Dunkirk

TIGRIS ONE - Thames passenger vessel, beached at dunkirk but later salvaged by French troops and sailed back to Kent and later served on the Thames before becoming houseboat in the 1980s

I think that is the one. It is also shown in a colour picture of the beach.

That's a very clear photograph, Katrin. Thank You for posting it. Do you have others from the 1940 campaign ?:)

Yes, I do have more photos. Not from the Fossa, but several photos at a beach in France. There are some pictures of a stranded ship, as well as some passing by in the distance. Also some of them show street signs and a hotel at a beach, a few photos of soldiers in a group as well as on horses, and at last some men digging in the sand. I think they where looking for dead soldiers, because the in the following photo one can see several corpses (almost mummified/ decayed) laying next to the sand holes. And after that there is one more photo showing several graves in line, with crosses and German helmets above each grave. I assume the digging men where giving the soldiers a proper burial.
I can post those photos, I am just not sure if it is 'proper' to post those dead bodies online?
As mentioned before, I found those negatives in an old cupboard I inherited from my grandfather. I would love to get more information about those photos, and the story behind it.
Let me know if you think it is ok to post these photos?

A recent eBay auction included a photograph of 'Fossa' towing 'Crested Eagle' on the Thames during 1937 so their association dates back to some time before they were both lost at Dunkirk.
