    Hi All

Is there any evidence of RN Ratings being loaned to Commonwealth ships? The reason I ask is that in my Dad's 1942 diary he mentions 'his beloved Southern Sea'. I know that Dad spent a lot of time in Alexandria visiting friends on Southern Sea, Southern Star and Southern Maid, three converted trawlers used as minesweepers and escorts by the Royal South African navy. Is it possible that an RN Signalman could have served on any of those ships?

Hi mate I just had a trawl through a few sites and realised that I hadn't followed this up. Did you have any joy at all?
