I'm looking for a photo of the Italian camps first hit by the Western Desert Force in Operation Compass. Do any exist?
Not too sure what you are after, or where you have already looked but I would suggest doing a collection search at www.awm.gov.au The names of the bases captured during Compass are described in the Wiki article so I started with Bardia and there are over 100 photos in the AWM collection mentioning that town. Bardia, Libya. 1941-01. Battle for Bardia. A view of some of the Italian defences abandoned during the battle.
Much belated thanks, Dave. I was thinking of Nibeiwa, the Tummars, and Maktila. There are a couple photos such as this one of an AT gun emplacement. NIBEIWA - CPLS SMITH & HULME OF THE ROYAL TANK CORPS WHO TOOK PART IN THE HIGHLY SUCCESSFUL ACTION AT NIBEIWA, TAKE A LOOK AT THE GUN THAT PUT THEIR TANK OUT OF ACTION. (PHOTOGRAPHED BY F. HURLEY).
