This Gentlemans son would like to know about hisv fathers service record - he was born in 1918 and joined the army in 1933/5 was based in Kettering, and was under age at 15 when he joined. His service number was 5884108 in 1945 and he was in the Intelligance Corps then - can anyone help please as Geoffrey seems to have disappeared between his birth and death in 1988!

    Christine,
Geoffrey Burton's army number, 5884108, tells you that he originally enlisted in the Northmaptonshire Regiment. There is an excellent online archive of the Northamptonshire Regiment.

    Hi,

Just to clarify OP comment of "underage enlistment".

Boys could serve/enlist officially in the British Army from Age 14 - the minimum age for leaving school in the 1930's. The comedian/actor Norman Wisdom is one of the "famous" boy soldiers of that era.
