Thanks so much Andreas, do you have Brevity and Battleaxe and Crusader era documents like these too? I am fascinated with the desert campaigns of the pre-Montgomery 8th Army, so any other links are greatly appreciated. It is such a complex series of actions in a multi-national army and despite the body of work published thus far the detail study of 8th Army units has yet to be addressed as far as it should. I am presently studying the Gothic Line campaign and intend to view the campaign to a similar depth as I suspect you are looking at Crusader. If any of that stuff interests you please email me. Thanks again leifyATsympatico.ca (replace AT with @) Merlin
Andreas - if you have this information for Brevity, Battleaxe and Crusader and are willing to share it, I would very much like a copy please. My email address is: steve.lygoATntlworld.com (again replace AT with @) Thanks in anticipation Steve
Hi Merlin and others I have more stuff on CRUSADER than I can shake a stick at, but I'm afraid that is all tied up in my working on my books, and it is just too much material to make available (i.e. it would take me a lot of time, which I don't have at present). Once those books are released I'll make the war diaries available online somehow. It's simply too much to work your way through, so what I can publish or find of interest, I'll put on my blog (link in my sig). By the way, the elements I put online here cover Battleaxe, as far as 7 RTR is concerned. I believe Major Holden won his DSO at Capuzzo? All the best Andreas

To add a little the the general posts I have seen -as a newcomer:- I am a Catterick Garrison 'brat' from 1935 whose father 4685896 Sgt. A. Hoyle was KIA 17th June 1941 [3rd day of BATTLEAXE]. I noticed that there did not seem to be a reply to someone's query regarding the re-forming of the 7th after return from Dunkirk. A notice was put on Orders that 'tomorrow' the cadre was to be reformed at BRACO in Scotland [near Crieff] and the information was 'secret'. My mother and I were on a train from Darlington to Edinburgh a few hours later!!! We were there until the regiment went to South Africa/Egypt. My recollection is of a regimental funeral-maybe of a vehicle accident however I still have tears when hearing 'Flowers of the Forest'. L/Cpl Raymond Atkinson [the recently deceased oldest RTR member] was my baby-sitter in 1936/37 at Catterick [my joke was - that is one one way to get promoted!] At the Tummar battles in December 1940 my father "acquired" a silver embossed pony saddle and Raymond was instructed to case it for return to the UK for 'Bobby' - ME! 17th June 1941 Raymond was on Echelon B duties and was in Tobruk when Battleaxe finished. When Tobruk was surrendered Raymond's last act before being made prisoner was to empty his revolver and spare ammunition into the saddle. I saw the first Matilda Mk 1 and !!'s arrive at Catterick-even as a 5 year old the Mk1's did not look big when the crew were visible from the hatch. I noticed also a post regarding RSM Stewart-we lived on Cambrai Lines next to him when he was CSM and I was pals with his sons.He used 'jankers wallah's' to water his vegetable garden. We ate some radishes and replaced the greenery which,of course, wilted. He was NOT amused but we confessed and were punished by the usual habits of our fathers--15 minutes on the square at the same time as the 'jankers wallah's' - with our toy rifles at the slope-WE LOVED IT but kept straight faces in case they stopped the 'punishment'.
