    Hi all,

I've been painting 1/48 and 1/72 land vehicles for a year now, and I'm learning... slowly. This is the only model I really like showing, a 1/48 Crusader III in Desert Pink and SCC1A. The "dust" layer was an attempt at a filter which went wrong after which I just stopped working on it. :-/

Last Christmas I gave my nephew a couple of the 1/72 Airfix starter kits. A few months later he asked if I could make one as he thought that the parts were too small. I know- he should be having a go at them! Anyway in the end I agreed to make the Spitfire for him out of the box, hopefully this will encourage him.

A great little kit! Had some problems with the decals ( I ended up having to paint the band around the fuselage as the decals kept falling off).

Only used the paints and brush that came with the box. There is a great video on the Airfix site showing how to make this kit if anyone is interested.

You may wish to use a decal softener and the decal will form over rivet heads etc and any other imperfections in the paint.
Several brands available and not expensive.

    Thanks Tom,

Sounds like a very sensible idea for the next one.

He presented it to me for my Birthday present and it is the late model Commanders Cupola for the Sherman tank.
I have put it together and took photos of the original cupola which is way under scale and the mid term cupola that I have scratch built the split hatch etc as a friend provided the ECA ring which is also resin.
The last photos show the late hatch in place and to me really looks the part with the 6 viewing panels.

So the kit is just for the cupola?

    Also, 1/6, wow! Radio controlled?

Not radio controlled as it will be static, to go with my other Sherman and just used for future dioramas. Although I do have a 1/6 scale r/c Stuart.
The Cupola was a kit especially made by (ECA)East Coast Armory in the US.
The owner produces 1/6 scale parts for various tanks.
Here is a link to a model forum that I am a member of, that shows my build from the beginning.

From an Airfix page on Friendface.
Mr Roy Orbison being presented with a stack of kits. Committed modeller, apparently.

He lost two sons in a house fire while on tour in the UK. The story is his model stuff in the basement was highly flammable. I thought he used to fly model planes.
Johnny Cash later bought the place and planted an orchard there. Another decent bloke.
Mrs S is a big fan of R.O.
