Hi Olwen. Welcome. Here is your father's MID notice in the London Gazette. http://www.london-gazette.co.uk/issues/36505/supplements/2128/page.pdf Do you have any photos of your father or of the ships he served on? Thank you very much. I do have photos of him and a photo of HMS Barndale ( I got it off the internet yesterday). I am not sure how to get it on this machine though. I will have to try. He served on the Barlake, Moorpout and Barndale. I think he took command of the Barlake when it was comissioned. I have a silver casket presented to him to commemorate the launch.
Hi Olwen, My Wife's Grandfather was on the Boom Defense Vessels at many of the places you mention, so perhaps he served with you relative. He definately was on Barndale at some point. If you send me a Private email with your email addres on it, I can share some details and we can see if they were in the same places at same time ? Wife's Grandfather was a Quarter Deck gunner on these vessels, by the name of William Ernest Berry. Rgds, Alan
Thank you Alan. Your wife's grandfather could have been on the ship when the Barndale rescued the crew and the wounded of HMS Spartan. I do have detailed log of this rescue. The official details as submitted to the Royal Navy, and which were despatched by my father following this rescue. He was awarded the MBE for his courage and good seamanship. He was very humble about it and never boasted about his decorations because he always said that without the co-operation of his crew nothing wuld have been achieved. My e-mail address - dougandolwen1@talktalk.net. Thanks again Olwen
