Hey, I am looking, as a birthday present for the wife, to find her grandfathers SBS records. Unfortunately, he kept his military history a bit of a secret and it was only revealed at his funeral, that he spent time in the fjords, counting the mines. Does anyone have any ideas where i can start?
Not sure if you are trying to keep this a surprise, but if you are able to post a name and any other information, you may well find that folks around here are able to come up with some information for you. Service records (as above post) essential. Good luck.
That's correct for modern SBS but wasn't it initially a "spin" off from SAS so I'd expect wartime members would - at least initially - be posted from the Army? Earl Jellicoe was previously 3rd CG before SAS followed by SBS. If OP posted his relatives service number perhaps we could see if he previously served Army or Navy prior to SBS. Steve Y
I was thinking the same Steve...A bit like the Commando's and Royal Marines-One Army and the other RN during the war.
