With the aid of thread 'can anyone speak japanese' I have tried my best but failed miserably. I would greatly appreciate if someone could please help interpret the attached card. Thanks, Roy
Dannemois Firstly I wish you much joy in your search for a forum member who speaks Japanese. Knowing this forum, I think it highly likely that even if we don't have such a member they may still have a friend who does. While we wait I'm going to tell you a true story based on the thread title. Many moons ago my family and I were on a touring holiday in Italy and stopped for one night at a lakeside hotel. I was intrigued to see that on the reception desk was the usual "Ici en parle Francais" signs but this one also said "Here we speak Japanese" When I told the receptionist that I was impressed by his linguistic accomplishments he told me that the only time he had ever made use of the sign was when a Japanese guest asked "Who speaks Japanese here ?" and he replied "You do !" Sorry for butting in on your serious enquiry but I couldn't resist it Ron
Have you tried to contact the Embassy? I tried my local Japanese Embassy twice writing a kind letter. Both times I got a kind reply with useful a useful translation. Else good luck
My company has some Japanese suppliers and I meet with them on a regular basis. Problem is, I never bring up war issues with them. Could be bad for business!
Dannemois, As per your other thread, it is easier to do a reasonable interpretation, even if not a complete translation, but many 'hints' are within the symbols on the front page (not just this back page) If you post the front page it will be easier. It appears the Japanese have not fully detailed the movement of this POW, and merely recorded that in year 18 (1943) he was sent to join up with the POWs in Group 4 on the Siam Railroad. Then on 20-9-4 (4th September 1945) he was released/liberated to the care of Lt. Col. Eachern. Mike
Hi Mike There you go, apart from admitting I am a novice I am also displaying it. Sorry. Front of card attached Thank you for your time. Regards, Roy
there is a gentleman who lives in Japan on another website, not sure if I can list it on this one. If get the okay will give you the sites name
'Google Translate' is worth a try with the camera option - it seems to provide a rough translation, although being an on screen image I was finding it difficult to put all the words together. It appears to be related to Prison Camp Akira.
I think this was posted on a similar request? https://www.gahetna.nl/sites/default/files/bijlagen/stamp_list_logo.pdf Dutch translations of PoW symbols Kyle
