    Hi David. What scale is the map?

    I have DAK Vol II and that is 5 miles/hex, which is too big a hex for the largely battalion sized units.

    Sounds much too complicated and was probably the reason for it's demise.
    Monopoly took too long to finish for me.

    Each hex represents 8 kilometers or 4.97 miles. It appears it is the same scale as DAK Vol II.

    I have a bag of SPI games including some biggies: The"War in the East", "Wacht am Rein", "Slow carriers" and "The Next War" I tried to find them a good home, but sadly the recipient died before I could ship them.

    Last Thursday's episode of Big Bang Theory (Season 11 - Episode 16) highlighted the infamous game, Campaign for North Africa. Sheldon attempts to play the game with fellow cast members. Based on the jokes, someone in the production company is quite familiar with the game.

    'I wish to play Risk with the sprogs', I thought.
    'Bet a copy will show in a charity shop for £3'.
    It did, within weeks.
    Vaguely recollect it was a sensible game, and good.

    All unused and sealed bags. Beats £30-40 new.

    A week later, hunting pc parts in the attic: oh, I've already got one, only better designed:

    We'll never play either.
    I'm in a fantasy land and they look at me funny from powerful PCs, their mechanical RGB keyboards clattering over the silly old sod.

    The moral:
    Risk and fondue sets. Both will appear, unused, at your local charity shop every few weeks.
    Wait, and save yourself money on something you might use maybe once. ;)

    I think the moral may be more something about "you can lead a horse to water"...

    How old are these sprogs?

    (Also, plenty of people are playing board games, and there have been about 1 million new games released since Risk.)

    The new rage in board games is Settlers of Catan. I played it once and it is not half bad regarding strategy. It can also be played by people from 8 to 80!
