Brilliant. Thanks for sharing. According to a friend of mine who saw it, they were practicing a few days ago by flying above the A17 ( very long straight stretch) in the Sutton Bridge - Kings Lynn area. He was properly impressed.

    Catching up on iPlayer.
Looks like your Micks put on a good show, D.
Dust suits the King's Troop and other horsey types very well. Though presumably means even more polishing later...

Watched today's parade, as usual, and saw the prompt removal of the unfortunate lads who fainted in the exceptional hot weather.

Would some knowledgable member let me know if those who went down in this manner would face punishment for their "behaviour on parade" ?

Watching the Troop on TV always reminds me of Dad's comments in years past.
Mainly, of the Micks: "MORE swagger!"
Sometimes, of other Gds regiments: "Would you look at that rank, s'like a dog's hind leg."

More polishing? As per Wills' profile:
"Join the army and see the world said the ad.
On arriving at the Guards Depot this was subtly changed to Join the Guards and Polish The Bastard."

I'll ask a work mate - he left the Irish Guards two years ago. Wait out...

We wondered about that too, Ron.
A former guardsman on ARRSE suggests it's only theoretically punishable if proven you skipped breakfast or the last chance for a drink, though later comment there implies, as expected, some standard issue mockery and maybe fined the odd crate of beer a far more likely outcome.
Not my toybox though, so hopefully someone who's walked the walk (or even fainted the faint) might turn up with more clarity.
Her Maj is cool. Can't see her being keen on harsh punishment, 'specially on her birthday.

    My mate says:

'Depends mate, I spoke to my mates today and it's been the hottest troop for a while so as long as they weren't pissed they wouldn't have'
From that reply I guess some would have got in the shit

Feel sorry for the poor Micks who face-planted, despite my avatar.
I have worn a uniform (not quite as heavy as the Guards No1) in fierce summer heat (including the legendary summer of 1976) and it is no fun but it seems some are more disposed to passing out in heat than others. Maybe some of the younger Micks had never experienced a long parade in heat.
Interesting question - if a Guardsman has a tendancy to pass out would he be excused a very hot parade?

Also, would he be excused combat duty in a hot climate, carrying even more equipment.?
I don't know, perhap's the army may offer him a transfer?

It would seem confirmed by the commentary elsewhere; this too may often be a significant factor :).
They're young, though! Not being hangover proof is a failing!

    Found the medals interesting.
For a few years now, racks outstanding on the rank and file. (Not just at the trooping. A noticeable feature on any Military at recent public events.)
Seemingly less this time? Maybe shows how turnover's always been quite high and large Afghanistan deployments fade to history.

I'm sure he won't mind me posting this image of him. You can just make out his Telic, Herrick and Jubilee gongs. A IED on his last Herrick tour ended his military career.

My Vice Chairman at the Legion was in the Coldstream Guards and we have members that were in the Welsh and Grenadier Guards.
Some have performed several Trooping of the Colour parades and all say that you will be disciplined if proved that you did not take breakfast and enough water or non alcoholic fluid prior to the parade.
Even so they would still get a dressing down and a lot of stick from colleagues.
    Regards
    Tom

Royals at snowy St Patrick's Day parade

The Duke of Cambridge has taken the salute at the Irish Guards' St Patrick's Day parade.

His wife Catherine then presented the shamrock to officers.

They braved freezing temperatures to watch 350 soldiers, dressed in red regalia, parade at the 1st Battalion's base in Hounslow, West London.

A shamrock was also pinned to the collar of the battalion's mascot Domhnall, an Irish wolfhound, who led the march-past.

Snow fell on the parade ground in West London

Before the parade Domhnall's handler, drummer Aidan Cathcart, worried that despite a week of test runs his charge would misbehave.
"Domhnall's role is very monumental - he is the first guy on the parade. He is the main guy on the march, it's a pretty important day for him," he said.
Asked if he was confident Domhnall would perform as planned, he replied: "No."
Prince William, who is a colonel of the Irish Guards, and Catherine had to face snow and strong winds as the UK experiences another cold snap.
The Duchess of Cambridge, who is due to give birth to the couple's third child next month, wore a green Catherine Walker coat and a Gina Foster hat.
