For the small wildlife pond I created in our back garden some years ago, I had slightly more than expected this morning with a pair of mallards and a heron! heronandducks-web.jpg

HAARA - nice photo but it looks as though you have borrowed CL1's plastic heron (the one he takes everywhere with him and always appears in his photos)

Certainly not! It has eaten all my fish, and it's necessary to net the pond in spring to stop it eating spawning frogs - as attached from a couple of years ago (but look away if you are squeamish!) heron eating frog-web.jpg

Nothing too exciting , some House Sparrows we have nesting under the eaves & in a nest-box on the wall.
Took these whilst in my hammock in the back-garden.

House sparrow nestling thinking about fledging .
    Nestbox on side of house.
Have another by front door with Blue tits in, they too should be ready to fledge soon.

    Nature can be so cruel.
This little swift literally fell from the sky dead from exhaustion after his 3000 odd mile flight ,(and avoiding French and Spanish traps may be)
Last year a similar occurrence but we were able to resuscitate it and after a few sips of water and a rest it was on its way.

They do however ruminate as in 'chew the cud' which can also mean 'think things over or meditate'.
