My Grandfather - Lewis Clive Osborn, served in 113th LAA regiment during the Second World War and my family and I are embarking on a trip in September to follow in their footsteps from Juno Beach through France, Belgium, Holland and on to Belsen. We are going to have an experienced guide with us and some diary notes made by Grandfathers best friend. Having come across this forum however I wondered whether anybody had any information on this regiment which might enrich our trip.
Any information would be gratefully received.

Hi and welcome to the forum Ed, good luck with your research. Wish you well with your trip, and you have wonderful time.
Just a thought do you have his service records, if not you could apply for them to help with your research.

113 LAA were in an AA Brigade. In Normandy, where it probably arrived in July, it was under 100 AA Bde.

There are quite a lot of references to in Routledge's "Anti-aircraft Artillery 1914-55"

Thank you to everyone for your help with this - you have provided me with some very interesting information.

I have located a picture of the 113th LAA 370 battery with my Grandfather Lewis Clive Osborn seated in the centre.

    [sharedmedia=core:attachments:140466]

I have also found a post in the WW2Talk forum from a JulieAnne which says she has published her uncles diary who served in the 113th LAA. I have messaged her but haven't had a response - does anyone have any ideas about how I can find this diary.

My family have also suggested the my Grandfather had to attend the Nuremberg trials - although they have no idea in what capacity. Does anyone know how I could find out ?

Many thanks for all your help

    Ed

Thanks Steve , the write up in the Archive for 113 just states that in early November 1945 they moved to Bad Piermont for further Garrison Duties and it was here that final disbandment took place , noactual date forthat is given.

Co from 1941 untill Sept 1945 was Lt Col WH Mather , OBE , MID, TD .

On landing in Normandy the Battery commanders were
368 Battery Maj NN Jobling MID
    369 Battery Maj AN Trofimoff
370 Battery Maj KG Taylor ( later awarded the MC and MID )

During the NW Europe campaign Maj PE Murrell MBE assumed command of 369 Battery and as Maj Jobling was seriously wounded on the Rhine Crossing an unfortunately unnamed Maj who compiled the account took over 368 battery. Further enqs to ascertain who that was !

Casualty figures for the Regiment in NWE were KIA 19 OR's , WIA 2 Officers and 44 OR's.

    regards

Many thanks for these details Paul, this region was referred to as Landkreis Hameln-Pyrmont with the town of Bad Pyrmont south-west of Hameln, according to the 30th Corps District War Dairies they moved from Hannover to the harbour area of Hameln on 29 Oct 45, however as in many cases there was a change of plan that went unrecorded.

  20. My Dad Harry Stephenson was in this regiment and he mentioned as they advanced through Germany they had to check houses for photos of gestapo and s.s to locate those looking innocent in civilian clothing and locked them up. anyone know if there is a list of names of those who served in the 5th during WW2?
