My great uncle John Robert Jennings was killed in action 1942 and buried at El Alamein. I was wondering if there were any photos with him in them or photos of his grave. I came across your site by chance and grateful for the effort you have gone to.

I would suggest you contact National Archives of Australia who will have a copy of his service file and from all those I have seen a lerge percentage of them have photos

For some reason today I keep receiving this message:

    This site can’t be reached
recordsearch.naa.gov.au’s server IP address could not be found.

It may be a temporary hitch

Shane has forwarded some photos of the flag in his possession signed by Aussie troops of 2/23rd Battalion 26th Brigade during Operation Oboe - Tarakan

Note one of the photos shows Lingkas Beach written on the hem of the flag - this extract is from my post #2 on this thread "the 26th Brigade landed on Tarakan on 1 May 1945. The two lead battalions were the 2/23rd and 2/48th. After the massive pre-invasion air and naval bombardment, there was no opposition on the beaches but sharp Japanese fire came from Lingkas Hill. The two battalions pushed inland towards the Tarakan township,"

AWM photo - Lingkas, Tarakan, Netherlands East Indies, 1945-05-01. Happy soldiers of the 9th Australian ...

Lingkas, Tarakan, Netherlands East Indies, 1945-05-01. Happy soldiers of the 9th Australian Division raise the Australian flag on a bamboo pole on the first day of Operation Oboe One, the Division's successful attack and landing on Tarakan Island then occupied by Japanese forces.
