WW2 Territorial Efficiency Medal's in London Gazette 1997?

Hello all
I assume this is due to some sort of retrospective change, but why are GVI Territorial Efficiency Medal's recorded in the London Gazette of 1997?
example being:
Page 10461 | Supplement 54893, 15 September 1997 | London Gazette | The Gazette

any help appreciated please

 

Not sure if I'm missing something but where does it say they are GVI Medals. One would assume they are QEII ones. Efficiency Medals were replaced by the Volunteer Reserves Service Medal in 1999.

I have one of them in my possession, sorry should have said that! its a GVI medal but the naming looks neat as opposed to the WW2 era issues. I have been doing some Googling on the matter and it looks like there may have been a change to the eligibility around 1997, something to do with it not needing to have been continuous service.

 

In the Gazette entry is your man being awarded a Medal or a Clasp?

Its the medal as far as i understand; 4194719 Jones.

I found this which suggests the change to eligibility:

There`s a few of those Regiment`s listed which ceased to exist long before 1997?

I'm sure I recall having seen this before in the London Gazzete in the 00's and maybe 10's also but can't remember any examples

 

These are late claims for the Efficiency Medal (Territorial) by WW2 veterans or their relatives

 

I can confirm that. Didn’t realise that these were Gazetted. I applied for my great granddad’s a while back and he was awarded it in March this year.

 

Originally only officer awards of the Efficiency Medal (Territorial) were "gazetted". More recently any award of the EM(T) can be found in the London Gazette.
I encourage anyone who is related (NOK) to a pre war Territorial Army serviceman to check with the MOD Medal Office if they are entitled to this medal.
There are lots of informative threads on here about applying for WW2 medals. The bonus is that this medal is named with your relative.

 

It is definitely worth checking. My great granddad was a WW1 veteran but he signed up for the TA in 1936, fought in France in 1940 and was captured and remained POW until April 1945. I had assumed that he didn’t have the necessary length of service for the Efficiency Medal until I discovered that war service counted as double so a form was duly sent to the Medals Office and it was awarded to go alongside the 1939-45 Star and War Medal which I’d previously applied for.
