I'll be in Athens late April/start of May, if anyone wants any photos or for me to stop by a grave and pay respect please ask and I'll see what I can manage Alistair

Thanks...bit of a strange date for a Faugh to die in Greece... Although badged 1st Bn, perhaps Fusilier Newman was attached to another unit.
ok thanks - still surprising that he was buried in Greece, given that the 1st Bn RIrF were still near the Po that day - as I say, must have been on attachment... he must have been wounded on Easter Sunday '43 in the final battle for pt 622 north of Medjez.
Hi The concentration report says his body was moved from Tzini which is a suburb of Patras. Hope this helps Gus
Hi Just read this. BBC - WW2 People's War - Greece about a ex Guards Sgt who was struggling in Italy to become fit to fight ending up in Patras in May 1945 with the Anglo-Greek Information Service. Maybe Fus Newman went over for similar reasons. Gus
Hi Alistair At Phaleron could you visit Lance Corporal William Reid of the 2nd Black Watch please? He's named on the memorial on Face 6 having been buried at sea following the bombing of HMS Orion during the evacuation of Crete. He was briefly on Everton's books and is mentioned in the board minutes as being posted missing 'in the Cretan operations'. Beyond that I know very little of him, but I'm hoping that the expertise on the forum might be able to help me with that in the future. If you could get a photo of his name and the panel I would be very grateful; while searching on Phaleron on the forum I've found several good photographs of the location so I have a sense of the setting. Thanks again, Pete. P.S. As this is my first post I hope I haven't transgressed too many unwritten laws.....
Bringing this one back up, I'll be in Athens again start of May so plenty time to get any requests in
