Talking WW2, it was Wogan who commented on the German winner A Little Peace that it was like "the Italians singing about theif war heroes", wasn't it? It's one if those quotes that seems to have been missed by the internet.

If we watch in our house, and that is a big if; we play a game called near neighbours of political value.
Last night we guessed eight countries delivery of 12 points, without hearing the song involved, the best of all being Cyprus awarding Greece 12 points without this song being supported by hardly anyone else.

Mind you, this game is more tricky than it was in the good old days of the 1990's, when the former Iron Curtain countries would share the love around with impunity.

Woke up to the news that the UK finished bottom even though it’s song was probably in the better half of the mix. Is it a song contest or a European political kiss arse contest?

It is corrupt and I don’t know why the UK bothers to sponsor it?!?

Luckrly, we decided to have a real good dinner for 2. instead.
It obvoiusly was a real flop. I love music, but not like that.

Fantastic entertainment as usual. Haters keep on hatin' - those of us who love Eurovision really don't care what you think. Go Oranje!

As for the UK finishing last - admit it, the song was terrible and so was the staging. I think the problem is that the UK simply does not fully commit to Eurovision by really putting the effort in to have a good song and show. As a result, it doesn't realize the full benefits and enjoyment of being in Eurovision. Kind of reminds me of...

    ... It's a Knockout: lightly-piddled British pub teams versus steroid-infused euro-athletes; I'm guessing.

On the plus side, I believe we actually won last night as the 'winners' clearly didn't understand what they were voting for.

Utter tosh. The UK has the 4th best Eurovision record of wins and the best of runners-up places - the latter being 15 runners-up positions with the next nearest nation having 4. We have the best record of any nation for top 2 and top 3 finishes. We are also one of the 5 sponsors of the event. So, tell me how that equates to not fully committing?

UK last won in 1997 i.e. 22 years ago. We've only finished in the top 10 once in the last 17 years (when we were 5th in 2009).

The fact is that Eurovision has become a much better and more sophisticated contest in recent years - high production values, talented artists and some very good songs. The days of just turning up with a tuneful ditty and winning against a bunch of musically backward countries has gone. UK has been left behind and will continue to be unless it steps up its game. Living off past glories is not good enough.

( Kind of reminds me of..) It would be polite to keep that to yourself. Has for has I'm concerned, Euro-vision is something that i would not watch. Its not my bag, & I've more important things to be watching or reading.

I thought it was a song contest, so not sure what production values should have to do with it. People wearing gimp masks and others suspended in the air on poles? Tuneful ditties work for me, as most of Eurovision is now tuneless. There is little enjoyment.

I have listened to all of the songs and I thought North Macedonia’s was the best. Denmark was a good tuneful ditty, as was Germany’s song. Also liked the quirkiness of Australia’s song. The rest I wouldn’t listed to again and Italy’s song as runner-up... really? One of the very worst songs in the competition!

The standards were never great but unfortunately have fallen drastically. Kind of reminds me of...

In many countries, a Eurovision win is a likely route to success. No UK artist with any credibility is going to risk it...even winning would be commercial death. I find the whole thing shite. It just leaves me wishing for the day that my daughters leave home so it doesn't have to be on here...

I think the word you are looking for Steve is SH*TE

It's about time the Beeb stopped spending their money on it wasting the public's licence fee:reallymad:

It appears that you are trying to patronise me, and taunt everyone in the UK with your ‘Kind of reminds me of...’ quote. Ever thought of taking-up a position as a diplomat?

I think it may be wise to grow up? Stop it. You are getting on my nerves. Its a silly stupid song contest. No need to bring politics into it.

I haven't brought politics into anything, and (in response to Steve) I'm not patronizing or taunting anyone - just defending my position which was dismissed as "utter tosh". I like Eurovision and will speak up for it, even if I'm in the minority - it's my right. The fact that other people have called it "sh*te" or "stupid" doesn't offend me in the slightest - I just disagree and think they're wrong (to be honest, some of it is sh*te, but in a brilliantly entertaining way!). I can think of numerous other things the licence fee is wasted on, but then again I'm sure we can all come up with a list and none would be the same.

I agree with the latter poster ... we like the Songfestival ... very much ... though it took us a long time to win it again:D
