Well done Gazz, what a contribution, publishing a low print run document few will be aware of with moving stories in. Thank you

    Gazz,

These personal accounts are the most emotional stories of the war. When we look at figures and data and bland war dairies we do not get the human side of the battle. I hope that you will continue to post them.

    Thank you,

I am afraid that is all the accounts posted from this particular booklet., apart from the bland statistics that are art the beginning of the book. I am glad you enjoyed them if I find anymore bits and pieces in Dads stuff I will certainly post them.
    Cheers

Hi, I can recommend the podcast and book, Fighting Through From Dunkirk to Hamburg by Paul Cheall who's Father Bill was also in the Green Howards, it may give you an insight in to your own Fathers WW2 experiences.

Hi there it was the 4th Bn East Yorks, and the Prince of Wales own Yorkshire Reg, Green Howards
The Prince of Wales's Own Regiment of Yorkshire was an infantry regiment of the British Army, part of the King's Division. It was created in 1958 by the amalgamation of the West Yorkshire Regiment and the East Yorkshire Regiment. After 48 years service, the regiment was amalgamated again, this time with two other Yorkshire regiments. It became the 1st Battalion of the Yorkshire Regiment, with the Green Howards forming the 2nd Battalion and the Duke of Wellington's Regiment forming the 3rd Battalion on 6 June 2006. Following further merges, in 2012, the battalion was redesignated as the new 2nd Battalion.

Sorry, my error. Your typed up citation says/implies he was 4th Battalion through WW2. I'm familiar with their history, I was keeping one of those battalions fit in Bosnia 2004 when they got the bad news they were becoming the Yorkshire Regiment. Drop me a message if you'd like a copy of the 4 East Yorks battalion diary covering Dunkirk etc.

Thank you so much for sharing! "The one lad that got it" was my great uncle Ted! I have the wallet with the hole in it!

I just made a video about him also.
It reads he was killed in his "bunker" and the shrapnel penetrating the side wall. Any idea which one?

thank you again! I am still looking for his friend who bumped into my Grandad Stanley Coleman many years after the war mentioning he got hit with Ted. Ted was Stanley's best friend and my Nana's uncle.
