GEORGE IN THE RECCE REGT.jpg I've attached a photo of my late Uncle George Francis Charles Bowyer, he was a pre war Territorial in the Rifle Brigade and he lived in East London. The photo was taken in about 1943 and I wondered whether any experts in the Recce Corps can identify which Regiment he might have served in from the lanyard or shoulder flash perhaps?

    Hello Clint,
    Welcome to the forum.
"Reconnaissance" shoulder flash dates from June 1943. So you are right about the date. Arm of Service strip, below, yellow and green was common to all of the Reconnaissance Corps as was a lanyard in the same colours. So unfortunately no clues from the picture to determine the regiment.

    Clint,
There is a possibility that he served with the 5th Reconnaissance Regiment, they were formed from from 3rd Battalion The Tower Hamlets Rifles, The Rifle Brigade in 1941?

All would be confirmed with a copy of his service records.
    Good luck with your research
