I posted a reply to a thread yesterday, concerning tank communications. I think mine was the only reply at the time. When I checked the forum later the thread had gone, just vanished.

Was there a problem yesterday at all?

There have been a few copy & paste spammers recently.
They copy old posts by other members.
They come back later & edit in a spam link.

Edit: Just checked & yes D banned the spammer yesterday after another member reported the thread.

Sorry, forgot to let you know that. The process deletes entire thread if it was started by a spammer but I can still retrieve your post if you want it as a stand-alone new thread?

Thanks for the explanation both. No, no need to restart a thread that no one had actually started, thanks. (Though it was a wonderfully crafted response from me, if I do say so myself :)).

I too have a post missing written back in March /April concerning the statement by Sgt Eric Whittaker B squadron 3rd RTR 18 July 1944 as mentioned in the Pendulum of Battle, could anyone shed any light on the disappearance, and can it be recovered and put back please, if not, may I replace it with a new entry please.

B Sqn 3RTR 18th July 1944 was the one I posted it on Owen, it was on the 1st page of that thread, actually I think it was (SDP?) who referred was to the book Pendulum of Battle and we told him we had already bought 7 or 8 copies to give to family members for the future together with photos and family history for 2044. 100 years since ww2. as it refers to their Uncle Eric Turner and his tank crew Sgt Eric Whittaker, Titch Everett and Harry Palmer. Thank you. Sheila

Thanks for revealing a most interesting aspect of maintaining standards and surveillance of the day to day postings.

Can I ask just what these spammers are up by this practice.

Its an old trick. You can also (for example) include a link to an image you host elsewhere and then at a later date edit the the image and put whatever you want on to the forum. You can create a lot of mischief that way.
