Has anyone served in the Royal Navy between the 1970's / 1990's ??
I have two binoculars which are RN issue which date from the 1970's -1990's ( my guess) - I would be very grateful if anyone can tell me anything abourt them .

So far I am on a hiding to nothing and would be delighted if anyone can help me out.
The two Items I pciked up on eBay over the past two years.

The large of the two came in its transit case the id plate of which I have reproduced here. also a servicing tag which was in the box.

The second one is much smaller unfortunately someone cut the electrical power lead away.

I am told that both have internal filter systelms and heating elements which are electrically operated, so far I have not attempted to provide them with power.

Are these general observation items or part of a weapons system ?

The binocular is described on the information plate as being G386/1 Binocular Ser. No.40.

    Hello James,
I remember seeing these at sea but cannot tell you much about them. Your first photo mentions G389/1; I picked this up from the net and would confirm my own thoughts.

Pedestal mounted G389/1 mod 2 binoculars,
Bore Telescopes . The Optical equipment is primarily used for visual
indication and direction of weapon systems as well as for visual safety during
firings on Type 22, Type 23, Type 42 and CVS.

The G386/1 would be an older version of the same I would think.
    Regards
    Hugh

    Greetings,
unfortunately I cannot add anything to these binoculars. I would like to get such a telescope. Or I can offer an exchange for another type from the Eastern Bloc armies. I will be happy for any information that would help me get G389/1
    Best regards
    Edmond.

    Greetings to everyone,
don't you someone have, please, electrical wiring schematic on the G 389/1. It's on a label taped inside the box - which I don't have? Thank you.
