Need help finding this soldier

Wow, so Gilbert was considered dead for days or even weeks, but in reality he managed to survive the war ( maybe he was captured ) and to live 40 years more.
It could be possible that he had a wife and maybe sons or daughters.

 

Cheers for checking - I suppose one other angle is to search the newspaper archives from 1930 for "John Stewart" and also combinations of "won", "winner", "medal", "award" and so on in case the award of the actual medal is reported somewhere but that could take a bit of trawling

If you manage to get a photo of his headstone, please let me know or better still upload it to that record on findagrave, I am keen to complete as far as possible all of the records of the London Scottish war dead.
