I haven't posted here lately but I thought this one may be of interest to the 1940 aficionados. I finally finished this little vignette of a BEF Dragon in France. The model Dragon mastered by Andy Lang (and a great job he did as well) was used along with their 6" Howitzer and I scratch-built the Limber. There had been much discussion here as to whether the Medium Mk IV's actually went to France but a photo on the IWM site confirmed that they did with such a combination on railcars at Cherbourg, France. A total of 10 went to France and from what I could learn, all serving with the 1st Medium Regt RA with GHQ Troops. Much help was received from Dick Harley, Dave Rhodes and for building the appropriate limber, George Moore was more than helpful with drawings and photos as he made the 1/35 masters for Resicast. He also supplied more photos supporting their use in France. Pete Marshall did the decals as usual and my thanks go to him The troops are also Bull Models sitting and walking infantry but with a head swap from a Milicast artillery set as the supplied heads appeared a bit too small for the bodies. The scene depicts such a unit waiting for the fuel truck as passing infantry exchange " comments" with the crew Cheers, Neil
Fantastically better than I ever did and could ever do now, but there is a but... The 1940 boys will be all over you for the anachronistic entrenching tools - we had a German-style one in 1940. Also, the rifles look more No.4 than SMLE, though that could be my eyes again. Always nice to see the more unusual subjects. Have you ever done a pneumatised 18-pr Mk II(?) of that period? BEF artillery always brings to mind Drew5233's Hondeghem thread.
Truly excellent as always, Neil. Wish I could do as nearly as good. Wondering where you get these Bull models, as my only source detected yet is the Scale Model Challenge, once a year in Eindhoven, Netherlands. There is only one trader with a few models. The internet produces no promising sources, no website of Bull Models, no catalogue. It seems to be even worse than trying to get Matador models. Cheers, Aixman
Thanks Idler......appreciate the comments but I'm no weapons expert and the figures came as BEF Infantry waling and sitting so assumed they would be correct. See attached for pneumatic tyred version. Thanks also Aixman…..Bull Models are a cottage industry who unfortunately don't have a website. I can give you his address if you are interested as he specializes in early war figures and vehicles, guns in resin. Cheers, Neil
