Hello again Sally, Would you happen to know when Frank was batman to Lt Col Smyth? I ask because I have a copy of the manifest for the plane that Smyth was on going to Arnhem and Frank isn't on it? I'm not 100% sure about this but If he had been batman to Smyth for the Arnhem operation would he not have been on the same plane? All the best
Hi Paul I took the photo from Harry Houghton's obituary, which you can find on the net. It must have been in one of the local papers. There is a bit more above the photo but I was unable to copy and paste it so I just used my camera to get that picture! Apparently Frank got the order to be Smyth's batman just before leaving for Holland, but I noticed from the chalk list in "I played piano and made the tea" that Frank wasn't on that list and wondered why. I am trying to find out who he was with. I'm not sure if it was with Tex Banwell. Any ideas how I can find this out? Sally
Hi Sally, We should find something between us, me and Paul have a lot of information about Arnhem... Also Horsepassenger might also have something...
Was at Philip Reinders, yesterday, and he should me 3 photographs, so it seems that you have one missing, it was indeed S.Company.
I did say either...which I think means one of a couple of people....so the answer is a no from you obviously.......
Hi Sally, Sadly my info on the 10th is very limited. I only have the manifests for 4 planes and Frank's isn't amongst them I'm afraid. Hopefully when the new 10 Para book comes out there will be more info. In the meantime, perhaps one of the guys on here has more stuff that may be of use? All the best ...............
Hi TomTAS, Thanks I would be grateful as it seems strange that Frank isn't listed so far! I know he definitely jumped and sadly landed on a dead para. And thanks to Paul too. Sally
Hi Sally, It doesn't surprise me really you find this a lot with loads and the like... Frank could have gone from one aircraft to another with no record or showing that or something like that...Also Paul does have the same we share all the files we have, so I think you best bet would be to wait for Grahame's new book... But on saying that I do have a spare cody of The Tenth... Cheers Tom
Hi Tom If Frank was ordered to be Smyth's batman just before they left it is quite possible that he was on a different plane, but it would be interesting to know which one. A spare copy of The Tenth? I was interested in the attachment about the 10th on another thread to Nicola. I'll have to find it again! I have a copy of Red Cross report from Stalag X1B if you're interested I can attach it for you and Paul. That is where Frank was. Sally
Hi Sally, Yes sorry about that I get confused which is not hard trust me LOL.... And yes please would like that a lot and yes I have a spare copy of The Tenth....
Hi Sally, Yes it is for sale the only trouble is I stuck plastic to the book cover, if your happy about that the books fine....PM me if interested and your Doc loaded fine thanks...
Hi Have now had a chance to talk to my aunt again. It seems there were 3 photos taken at the same time, but my uncle wasn't in the third one, which is why I only have 2. I now know that although not listed, Frank was on Col Smyth's plane with HQ. At the very last moment at Spanhoe Frank got a call to go to see the CO and because he had been in Provost he had been chosen to be Smyth's minder and so changed planes at the last minute, otherwise he would have been with Tex Banwell and A Coy. I asked about him not being on the list and she said that the list would have been done before that and it wouldn't have been changed. She asked me to ask if anyone knows if Tom Harding is still around? Sally
Hi Sally, I knew something like that might happen, like I said before you get this a lot with air loads and the like.... Also is that Frank in the photo you now have in the small box ??? Cheers Tom
