Nice to see mention of Tex Banwell. Tex was a very good friend of mine for many years We served in the 10th together from when I joined in 1964 until he passed on. At one time I was tasked with organising a battle field tour for the Commando Log. Reg. Tex was along to advise me ,We walked all the routes into the bridge and particulary the 10 Para route . At this time I was very privileged to attend a ceremony in the village of Putten where Tex was presented an award for his work with the resistance after the battle.Tex remarked in a subdued voice " All I did was get them killed and they have given me a Medal" I stood behind Tex in a Dakota on the 25th he was no.1,As we ran into Ginkel Heide with the red on I thought we were a bit low Helicopter height and was having reservations about jumping but Tex would have gone regardless,he was stood in the door with a steely look in his eyes. the the jump was aborted due to high winds. On landing I asked the American pilot why we were so low on the approach "Just thought I would go down for a look around ,I would have popped up to drop you "he drawled. Tex got to jump the Dakota next day ,I missed out. Thumbnail of Tex with Commando Log Regiment
Great photo of him. Thank you for sharing it and your memories of him. I was sad to hear of the passing of Tom Harding. Sally

As it seems no one else has mentioned this book......Came out on 23 April 2016...300 pages, 1.6kg hardback and around 120 maps and photographs, some in colour........
I hadn't seen or heard of this book, so will investigate. Haven't been on forum for ages, but thought I would as today my uncle, Pte Frank Burton would have been 93. Always remembered.
Sally D -I suggest you act quickly - Desert Rise Arnhem Descent came out on 23 April 2016 and at the last count there were 3 copies left unsold in the UK.......
