Hello everyone, I am trying to establish when /where L/Bdr. Leckie was taken prisoner. I suspect it may have been at Tobruk. I have some information which suggests that his first name was John and his second name was Arthur, in which case the inital 'S', which comes from the POW registers WO392/21 and WO 391/1, is incorrect. Can any one help out with with the Missing list? Thanking you in anticipation, Vitellino
Cant answer your question directly but perhaps by a process of elimination 1. Name: J Leckie Rank: Bombardier Army Number: 1106792 Regiment: Royal Artillery POW Number: 266186 Camp Type: Stalag Camp Number: IV-A Camp Location: Hohenstein, Hesse Name: John Leckie Enlistment Date: 12 Dec 1940 Discharge Date: 5 Nov 1945 Regiment: Royal Artillery Military Unit: 6th Filed Service Number: 1136792 Shown as POW - ME - 17/6/1942 - not sure if that fits with Tobruk 2. This is the man you refer to but I cant find a tracer card for him to confirm but hopefully others may find his details on FMP UK, British Prisoners of War, 1939-1945 Name: J S Leckie Rank: Gunner Army Number: 1086342 Regiment: Royal Artillery POW Number: 153321 Camp Type: Stalag Camp Number: XVII-A Camp Location: Kaisersteinbruch, Austria Obviously the elimination process didnt quite work as expected TD

From the Desert Rats site Artillery Regiments Page, his unit was in the area. "102nd Regiment Royal Horse Artillery (Northumberland Hussars) served with 2nd Support Group, as part of 2nd Armoured Division in North Africa, before joining the 1st Armoured Brigade in Greece, in February 1941. After evacuation to Crete, following the fall of Greece, it took part in the defence of the island as infantry before again being evacuated to Egypt in June 1941. After being strengthened by men from the suspended 106th RHA, the Regiment then served, with 7th Armoured Division during 'Operation Crusader' in November 1941 and at Gazala in 1942 as an Anti-Tank unit."
