11 Fld Rgt C.O.'s 1942

Can anyone please help solve a mystery. I am currently transcribing the regiment's war diary for 1942. The August diary has Lt Col AHE Howell listed as the CO on both the diary pages and in the weekly return of Officers where he is a Maj - T/Lt Col.
In October, the diary pages have Lt Col JFB Huntley as CO and he remains as such until the end of the year. However, in October's weekly return of Officers he is listed as Capt - T/Maj and Lt Col AHE Howell is still listed. Both are listed as present with the regiment and nothing in the diary suggests any handover. Unfortunately there are no Officer returns for November & December.
Does any one know who was actually CO of 11 Fld at that time and when (if ever) the change of command was made.

There is a biography by an 11th Field Regiment, R.A. man, but I don't have it.



May be worth checking here and whether there's an IWM interview.

 

Many thanks for that Charley, on checking my library again I found I have a copy of the book. Although it does not mention the change of CO's from Lt Col Howell to Lt Col Huntley it does give Howell as CO in August 1943 in Syria. So now the remaining mystery is why the war diary pages for October to December 1942 clearly give the CO as Lt Col JFB Huntley. He did eventually become CO, as the book records that at the end of June 1944 he relinquished his command of the regiment.

Additional: I have just copied the entry for 3 Nov 42 and it states "CO2 Maj Huntley to 1 A&SH ...." so he is still being referred to in the text as the 2i/c and a Major but on the heading as "Commanding Officer JFB Huntley Lt Col"
