Im hoping for to find some information, large or small, on my Grandad George Henry Fox (11/10/1915 - 08/04/2008) and his regiment if possible.

Hopefully somebody on here might be able to help.

    I'm pretty sure my Grandad was a Sergeant and served 1939 - 1945 in 117 Battery, 75th Anti-Tank Regiment, 11th Armoured Division.

I know he served in Normandy and Dunkirk and recieved an oak leaf and a citation.

I dont have his service number but I'm currently in the process of applying for his Service records.

Like i say any info no matter how little would be greatly appreciated, also is there a way i can search for his citation?

    Many Thanks

    Neil

Hi Neil....Do you know who he was serving with before the 75 AT Regt? They didn't go to France in 1940 so he wasn't at Dunkirk with them. I've list all the regiments war diaries below. WO 166 files are home forces and WO 171 are NW Europe.

    WO 166/1647 ROYAL ARTILLERY: ANTI-TANK REGIMENTS: 75 Anti-Tank Regiment. 1940 Nov.-1941 Dec.
    WO 166/1662 ROYAL ARTILLERY: ANTI-TANK BATTERIES: 75 Regiment, A Battery .1940 Nov., 1941 Jan.-Feb.
    WO 166/1663 ROYAL ARTILLERY: ANTI-TANK BATTERIES: 75 Regiment, B Battery. 1940 Nov., 1941 Jan.-Mar.
    WO 166/1664 ROYAL ARTILLERY: ANTI-TANK BATTERIES: 75 Regiment, C Battery .1940 Nov.-1941 Mar.
WO 166/7104 ROYAL ARTILLERY: ANTI-TANK REGIMENTS: 75 Regiment. 1942 Jan.- Dec.
WO 166/11345 75 AT Regiment 1943 Jan.- Dec.
WO 171/925 75 AT Regimen t1944 Jan.- Dec.
WO 171/4777 75 AT Regiment 1945 Jan.- Dec.
    WO 171/9031 75 AT Regiment 1946 Jan.

If you don't have a copy it may be an idea to apply for a copy of his service records from the MoD. They cost £30 but will list all of his units and when he was with them amongst other things.

    Cheers
    Andy

May I add to Steve's remarks, according to my working notes

    1. 75 Anti Tank Regiment were at an as yet unidentified location in central Holstein, north of Hamburg, south of Bad Segeburg on VE Day..

    2. On or shortly after 10th May on the Authority of HQ 8 Corps for British Army units to cross the Kiel Canal the Regiment occupied the coastal town of Eckernforde on the shores of the Baltic to the north of Kiel

    3. On the 2 June 45 the Regiment left 11 Armoured Division for Bremerhaven to come under command HQ Artillery Guards Division (but the port of Bremerhaven was part of the US Enclave).

    4. In mid July 1945 the entire Guards Division left the Cuxhaven Peninsular for the Rhineland, 75 Anti Tank Regiment for Aachen where they were to remain till disbanded.

    Gents,
Ive managed to get hold of my Grandads Certificate which states that Sergeant G.H. Fox was mentioned in a dispatch for distinguished service.
It says that it was published in the London Gazette on 22 March 1945.
Im having trouble finding a copy of this, any advice would be appreciated.

    Cheers

    Neil

Here is the entry on the London Gazette for 22 March 1945.

You probably won't find a copy of the actual citation, as hardly any MID were kept.

    His Service No is 3715486

    Cheers - Rob.
