I am looking for some help. I am building a flag holder and shadow box for my deceased grandfather to give to my dad. I have located his awarded medals, but I would like to add a patch to the shadow box. His WD AGO Form 53-55 that I have says his organization was Company "C" 1286 Engineer Battalion. Does anyone have any information one this battalion that they can share with me?

    David,

The 1286 Engineer battalion is a US Army unit and was part of the 28th Infantry Division, if only for a short time: 28.04.1945-20.05.1945. Id'd on: World War II unit histories & officers

There is a long video interview of a member on (not viewed): Joseph Curry Regan collection: Veterans History Project (Library of Congress

This dissertation may give some background: https://unbscholar.lib.unb.ca/islandora/object/unbscholar:7170/datastream/PDF/view

There are a small number of obituaries for members, none go into detail.

As this site concentrates on British and Commonwealth WW2 activity the unit has not appeared here before. I have just checked our American "sister" site and nowt there.

Google has no patch images, so you could try the US Army Engineers Museum for help, assuming there is one.

    Good luck.
