I've added to the blog - adding photos in the order they are in the album means that it is still 1944! However, I do have yet more pictures of W M Morgan
I've had a quick response to my e-mail to CWGC. Someone else must have spotted the incorrect headstone, as CWGC said they replaced it on 22 July 2015. I just need to get a new photo for the RA Commemoration thread.
I made an inquiry to the CWGC about Westduin as well - on the 12th - but haven't received a reply yet. I told you last week that a couple of stones had be replaced and I have seen that one of them was on the front row, but I had not noticed it was D'Arcy's headstone. Otherwise I would have taken a photo of it. Will do so next time.
Here is a photo of the new headstone. As you can see on the other photo, the pieces of wood to keep the new headstone in place were still there.
I've been adding to the 133 regt blog - mostly pictures of men, some of Belgian children who they befriended - and now, today, some which include guns and a sketch map to show where 444 battery were deployed to defend Antwerp
It's definitely worth a try. With your permission, I am happy to contact the local newspaper in Grave to see if they're interested in publishing the photo and an appeal. Ramacal and I have done that successfully before.
I've just posted the last of these photographs and a page written by the original, German, owner. It includes a picture of 3 Dutch resistance officers Now the book goes to the Imperial War Museum. I just wanted to release the information into the wild before the book was stored.
I am writing a short obituary of William Michael Morgan of Forest Hall, Fforestfach, Swansea, for publication on the Fforestfach History website. In preparation for this I have collected information from the Imperial War Museum, local newspapers and elsewhere. I paid my respects at his grave in June 2015. I seek permission to use the photograph of Farquarson, D'Arcy and Morgan taken at East Wittering in 1944 during William Michael Morgan's operational training before he was posted to operational duties. SH
Yes... You certainly have my husband's permission to use that picture (he owns/owned it before giving the book to the IWM) please post a link to the obit on this thread so we can read it? JJ Farquharson spoke about him as a friend. (You have found the sound recording by JJF at the IWM - it's on the website)
Very many thanks. I'll post a draft of the obituary on these pages in a few days. The post on the Fforestfach History website will take longer, I'm afraid, since the website is dealing with all of the names on the Fforestfach war memorial. SH
