My research is the photo collection of all Headstones and Memorials of RAAF and Australians who died in other allied Air Forces. A look at my database shows there were 33 Australians who died with 148sq between 14/09/1941 and 12/05/1945 Cheers Geoff
Hi Terry - following on from Spidge's post, I am doing my bit to photograph RAAF graves and do some research into causes of death to round out the info on some of the official sites. What is your cousin's name? Details on his death could be on an Aussie file (if you already know all that is required on that front, then I will try to help in any other way) cheers Dave
Terry, Hello and welcome to the forum. There was a thread not too long ago touching on this squadron if you care to search the forum threads. Regards Tom
Where did they fly out from? Reason I ask is that a neighbour was telling me about the airbase at Westonzoyland, Somerset. Apparently as a child he would be woken by light aircraft flying out at night - he believed they were ferrying SOE over to Europe. Regards Pete
Hi, Sorry for the delayed reply, I've been U/A due to tha flu bug! His name was Flt/Sgt Leonard James Smith, and yes I have most of the story now. And I have written the story up, it's available on my group site, operationdarkofthemoon : Operation: Dark of the Moon you may have to register to get it, but your registration is pre-approved, its my group! All are welcom with a desire for the history of the squadron, or the SOE. Terry

A relative of mine died of wounds in May 1945 while serving with 148 squadron. It seems from what you and others have said that there do exist records which might get me closer to finding out what actually happened.
Hello Terry, I've tried to register to read your account of 148 Sq, but I am asked to register a new Yahoo account (whatever that may be) and it seems to think I must have an e-mail address terminating with yahoo.com, which I don't. HELP!!
