I understand that 154 Field arrived in North Africa in June 1942, but does anyone have a date, and a location please?

    Sorry, not an exact date.

The 154th (Leicestershire Yeomanry) Field Regiment, R.A. (T.A.) was formed at Rufford Abbey with ‘A’ and ‘B’ Batteries as a duplicate of the 153rd on April 15th, 1940. The regiment served under the IV Corps in September 1940. ‘C’ Battery was added on January 14th, 1941. The batteries were renamed ‘P’, ‘Q’ and ‘R’ Batteries on March 11th, 1942 and numbered as 594th, 595th, 596th Batteries on January 1st, 1943. The regiment was sent to Egypt at the end of 1942 and was attached to the 50th Infantry Division at El Alamein on October 23rd, 1942. It moved to Persia on January 14th, 1943 from Egypt and came under the 6th Indian Infantry Division until April 5th, 1943. It then returned to Egypt and came under the command of the 7th AGRA on April 30th, 1943. It left this formation and joined the 10th Indian Infantry Division in Egypt on May 29th, 1943. It moved to Syria on July 21st, 1943, to Palestine on November 16th, 1943, to Egypt on March 16th, 1944, at sea from March 23rd to 28th, 1944, and from then in Italy. It then served under the 78th Infantry Division in Austria from July 10th to August 31st, 1945.

There is a small Leicestershire Yeomanry Museum in Loughborough which holds a copy of the wartime history of the two Gunner Regiments

The volunteer staff were very helpful when I contacted them regarding a query on the movements of 153 Field Regiment a few years ago.
