    Edward Henry Lysaght Lysaght-Griffin

    Biography
Born in 1893, he was educated at Sandhurst before being commissioned as a Second Lieutenant in the DLI in 1913. He was in India serving with the 1st Battalion DLI when the Great War began and in 1917 went to Mesopotamia as a signals officer with the Royal Engineers. He served in Iraq until 1920 and was awarded the OBE for his work there. He then joined the 2nd Battalion DLI in India and saw action in 1930 in the Razmak operations on the North West Frontier.

In 1937, he was made Brevet Lieutenant Colonel and became Second-in-Command of 2 DLI. In August 1939, he took command of 1 DLI at Tienstin in China and, in early 1940, moved his battalion to Egypt. He then left 1 DLI and, with the rank of Temporary Brigadier, held various staff appointments in the Middle East. He fell ill, however, in 1941 and was forced to retire.

He was awarded the Distinguished Service Order and made Commander of the Order of the British Empire for his staff work during the Second World War.

Edward Lysaght-Griffin died in 1979, aged 85 years.
